February 24 is Pink Shirt Day. This day focuses on anti-bullying, working together, and treating others with dignity and respect. This initiative started in 2007, when a Grade 9 boy in small-town Nova Scotia was bullied for
Last year, NorLand hosted a Company-Wide Workout Challenge encouraging NorLanders to stay active while adhering to COVID-19 restrictions. As 2021 rolled around, it became clear that the global pandemic was far from over – so NorLand has launched a new and improved workout challenge to keep employees active, connected, and engaged in 2021.
"Canadian Construction Women (CCW) creates a stronger construction industry by inspiring and supporting women.” CCW is a Vancouver-based association that exists to attract and retain women in the construction industry. They have committed to increasing women’s representation in the field since 1981, and NorLand has been a proud Gold Sponsor Member since January 2019.
In Canada, the month of February is celebrated as Black History Month and in the spirit of this we are going to shortly reflect on last year and the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement.
In 2020, we have seen the international rise of the BLM movement, which started in 2013 in the United States. This past year we saw protests across North America and the world in support of anti-racism and eradicating violence against Black people, people of colour, and Indigenous peoples.
January 28th is Bell Let’s Talk Day; this is a day to discuss mental health, provide support to those who need it, and continue to work towards ending the stigma around mental health.
According to a Nielsen Consumer Insights Survey, 84 percent of Canadians are now comfortable discussing mental health compared to 42 percent in 2012. In lieu of an Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) article this month, we’d like to focus on a “Train-the-Trainer” program called “Be More Than a Bystander”.
Demolitions are nothing new for NorLanders, especially if you are a part of Pacific Demolition. There was nothing special about working on the refurbishment of an apartment building on Davie Street in early August 2020. However, an unexpected human impact of the renovation work came to light as demolition crews mobilized the site.
NorLand acquired some new property in Port Kells in February 2020 and we are already using it to give back to our community. This property will be used mostly for Traxxon Rock Drills (TRD) and Traxxon Foundation Equipment (TFE), but also for Apex & Pro-Tech.. NorLand will be fully utilizing it next year (Spring 2021) as it will take time to upgrade it for our needs.
