International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Body:

Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and the 2020 theme is “Not all disabilities are visible.” This means we’re focusing on spreading awareness and understanding of disabilities that are not immediately apparent. This includes mental illness, chronic pain or fatigue, sight or hearing impairments, diabetes, brain injuries, neurological disorders, learning differences and cognitive dysfunctions, among others.

CKNW Kids' Fund Pledge Day 2020

Body:

Each year, CKNW Kids Fund has a pledge day where they receive donations; every dollar raised today goes towards enhancing the lives of children in BC living with physical, mental, and social challenges.

NorLand donated $25,000 this year and has donated over $300,000 to date. Now, we're also challenging all construction companies in the Lower Mainland to make a donation!

Good Deeds, Division to Division

Body:

As we know, Dylan Griffin from Pacific Blasting & Demolition has been raising money and purchasing Christmas gifts for the children at BC Children's Hospital. As if this wasn't heartwarming enough, last week a BelPacific employee decided to help!

Gord French from BelPacific stumbled upon a box of unopened toys at his parents' house (they used to also collect and donate toys at Christmas!) Gord gathered these toys and donated them to Dylan's collection this year.

It's great to see good deeds happening all across NorLand - from division to division!

Holiday Fundraising for BC Children’s Hospital

Body:

Dylan Griffin (Labourer, Pacific Blasting & Demolition) has turned a family tradition into a big gift this year. Each year, he and his family pick a local charity to raise money for during the holidays, and this year he has chosen BC Children’s Hospital. When we asked Dylan when this tradition started, he said, “As long as I can remember. It was a family thing – if you don’t need something, then give something.” This passion to give back usually doesn’t grab attention from others, but this year, Dylan decided to make it bigger.

NorLand’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee

Body:

One of NorLand’s values is “Variety Makes Us Strong”. This means we embrace a broad range of skills, specializations, and perspectives. It also means we aim to hire and work with a diverse group of people, and we’re always promoting the notion of equity, diversity, and inclusion. This is something NorLand is passionate about – we even have a full committee dedicated to it! The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee works to ensure NorLand is living this value every day.

So, what exactly are equity, diversity, and inclusion?

CCW Bursary – Every Person Deserves to Grow

Body:

In 1981, Canadian Construction Women (CCW) was created with the mission of creating a stronger construction industry by supporting and inspiring women. CCW believes in connecting women to a powerful network of other women, in building a community of women in construction, and in providing opportunities for women in the industry.

In keeping with the value “Every Person Deserves to Grow”, NorLand donates $1000 annually for the CCW Women in Construction Bursaries, established to provide financial support to women who:
