University Powerhouse Demolition

Pacific Demolition was contracted to complete the abatement and demolition of UBC’s 1930’s era powerhouse while the university remained in full operation. Our crews used engineered demolition plans to carefully deconstruct the building, its five boilers, equipment, and a 75’ vertical stack in a manner and sequence that minimized dust, noise and vibration impacts to the surrounding area. We also backfilled the void after the building was demolished. A combination of high-reach and conventional excavators were used to complete the project safely and efficiently with no disruptions to students, faculty and university operations. All non-hazardous waste was recycled at licensed facilities.
