Entrance Island Sewage Treatment Plant Building and Outfall
In the spring of 2018, Copcan was awarded a contract to construct a new wood framed sewage treatment plant building on Entrance Island along with the installation of equipment and concrete encased outfall piping. Entrance Island is located approximately 12 km east of Nanaimo, in the Straight of Georgia, and inaccessible by road. Logistically the project was challenging as all materials were required to be brought to site by barge or in the case of ready mix concrete, by helicopter and bucket. Crews were also transported to site daily by water taxi if winds permitted. Concrete work for the outfalls was required to be scheduled and performed around tides in an environmentally sensitive areas and completed without incident.
