Controlled Blasting
Urban Blasting
We have over 60 years of experience with controlled blasting in urban areas for the construction of buildings and residential developments as well as the installation of utilities. We routinely conduct blasting operations in close proximity to other buildings and utilies that must not be damaged. All blasts are covered with blasting mats and monitored with seismographs.
Demolition Blasting
Our blasting crews have a wide range of experience with selective demolition. We’ve successfully completed demolition blasting projects ranging from machine bases inside operating plants to smoke stacks, silos, towers, bridge piers, dock structures and entire high-rise structures in urban cores.
Underwater Blasting
We are the most experienced contractor on the west coast of Canada. Our team has completed projects related to the construction of docks, bridges, ports and outfalls as well as a wide variety of underwater demolition projects. We use computer designed blasts and install bubble curtains to minimize any damage to the environment and work closely with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance.
Explosive Metal Hardening
During the last 60 years we have developed innovative techniques for the explosive hardening of metals. We can help improve wear characteristics and prolong the life of your metal components. One application is manganese steel railway frogs. We use our EDH system to increase their hardness from 155 to 300 Brinell.
Non-Explosive Rock Removal
We offer a wide range of non-explosive rock removal services for applications where explosives cannot be used. Our crews are experienced with hydraulic splitting using Darda rock splitters, expanding grouts and pyrotechnic systems such as RocKracker, Nonex and the Boulder Buster system.
Explosive Compaction of Soils
We have extensive experience with the densification of soils for the construction of dams, bridges, highways, industrial building sites, and oil drilling platforms. Our crews can often increase relative density by 70-80%. During the last 60 years we have also developed an innovative technique for liquefaction evaluation of foundation soils.
Rock Slope Stabilization
High Scaling
Our high scalers are fully trained and qualified in high angle rope access work. Whether its using scale bars to sound for “drummy” areas or controlled blasting and air bags for large blocks, our crews have the tools and experience to get the job done safely and efficiently.
Rock Bolting & Anchors
We offer a wide range of rock bolting and anchor services. Our crews use specialized drills and Spider Cages. Rock bolts are installed as tensioned bolts or passive dowels and are secured with epoxy or high strength cement grouts. Our crews then carry out testing of the rock bolts and grout as part of our quality assurance program.
Trim Blasting
Our trim blasting services can help avoid further damage to the rock mass behind your trim line. We use controlled shots to selectively remove zones or unstable rock. All work is completed under the supervision of one our highly-experienced blasting supervisors.
Drains
Our drain installation services will relieve the water pressure in any rock slope. We can quickly and efficiently drill drain holes into a rock slope and line them with slotted PVC drain pipe. In certain applications, we also install complete plumbing systems to direct water away from rock slopes.
Drape Mesh
Our crews have extensive experience with the installation of drape mesh on rock slopes. We have developed innovative techniques using helicopters to improve the efficiency of installations. Our crews fasten mesh panels at the top of the rock face using a brow cable and ensure they are overlapped to provide continuous coverage of the rock slope.
High Energy Rock Fall Fence
Our crews have extensive experience in the installation of high energy impact rock fall net systems manufactured by a variety of suppliers. These fence systems are typically located along the toe of the rock slope and are used to protect people and infrastructure from the hazards of falling rock.
Shotcrete
We have extensive experience with the installation of both dry and wet shotcrete systems on high rock faces. Our crews typically install steel fibre or poly reinforced fibre systems to seal and reinforce the strength of the rock face. Test panels are shot by our certified nozzlemen and sent for quality assurance testing.
Heli-Portable Access Equipment
Over the last 60 years we have developed specialized heli-portable drilling and support equipment for carrying out drilling in remote locations. This equipment is routinely used for installation of rock anchors for wind monitoring towers, communications towers and hydro installations.
Mining
Production Drilling and Blasting
We provide mine production drilling and blasting services to clients anywhere in the world using state-of-the-art drilling equipment, the latest in detonation systems and highly experienced blasting crews. Blast designs and tie-ins are produced to ensure maximum fragmentation, to minimize muck throw in areas where dilution is of concern and to control blast vibration to minimize wall damage.
Mine Development
We provide complete mine contracting and starter pit development services and specialize in pioneering haul-road development in areas that are extremely difficult to access. Our specialized drilling equipment will get your mine up and running.
Pushbacks
We can help you recover additional ore or stabilize the slopes of your mine. Our complete package of pushback services includes all rock slope stabilization systems, wall control blasting and assistance with mine design to ensure that your pushback is completed safely.
Wall Control Drilling & Blasting
We offer wall control drilling & blasting programs that limit blast vibration and damage while maintaining the stability of your mine’s high wall. Specialized wall control designs by us have enabled some mining operations to steepen the overall slope of their high wall. In one recent application, we used local geologic parameters to steepen a high wall from 47 to 63 degrees.
Portal Development and Tunneling
We provide a complete package of tunnelling services, including portal development and rock slope stabilization above the portal. Our services also include muck handling, rock stabilization system installation and meeting all ventilation requirements.
Drop Raises
We provide drop raise design and implementation services for drop raises from the bottom of open pits to underground drifts, or for drop raise requirements in underground operations.
Rock Slope Stabilization
We install high scaling, rock bolting, cable anchors, draped mesh and other slope stabilization systems in open pit mines. Our crews are available to work anywhere in the world.
Drill and Blast Consulting
Our drill and blast audit services identify any areas of deficiency in your current program and provide recommendations for improvement. If you are experiencing wall control problems, our audit services can quickly determine the problem areas and provide an economical and practical solution.
Special Projects
We are noted for “out-of-box” thinking when it comes to providing special project services. Our RSO personnel qualify us to provide the following services:
