Are you ready to make an impact in construction? At BEL Contracting, part of NorLand Limited, we are looking for an Estimator to join our team to produce estimates for a wide range of complex and unique heavy civil infrastructure competitive tenders as well as manage and be responsible for all aspects of construction from start to finish.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Review plans & specifications to determine scope of work and to define project requirements
  • Develop complete estimates for tender submissions on small, medium and large heavy civil construction projects
  • Cultivate and maintain solid, long-term relationships with customers
  • Analyze the project and estimate requirements and establish a plan for developing the estimate
  • Review scope of work, identify subcontractor packages and secure subcontract tenders for inclusion in the estimate
  • Prepare a complete estimate in Hard Dollar including all self-perform items: labour, equipment, materials etc.
  • Conduct an estimate risk analysis and present the project execution plan and estimate details via a bid review meeting to the Estimating Manager and General Manager
  • Work on joint venture major project pursuits (RFQs and RFPs) in cooperation with partner companies
  • Maintain and manage client and stakeholder relationships, and ensure appropriate client communication

 

What we are looking for:

 

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience executing pre-qualifications, estimates, and contract negotiations for small to large heavy civil construction projects in the lower mainland
  • Minimum of 7 years’ minimum experience managing all aspects of heavy civil construction from project start to project closeout in the lower mainland
  • Experience in the lower mainland an asset
  • Eng, EIT, technical diploma or extensive industry experience is an asset Experience in the lower mainland an asset
  • Ability to effectively manage new customer development, customer issues, complaints and inquiries whilst providing excellent customer service
  • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, and MS Projects skills, Hard Dollar experience is an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, outstanding time management, prioritization, multitasking, and organizational skills
  • Strong work ethic – ability to work in a confidential, fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Valid Driver’s License

 

 

Compensation

The role is a permanent, full-time position with a typical salary range of $90,000-130,000 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, and experience. Are you an experienced Project Coodinator looking for your next opportunity? At BEL Contracting, part of NorLand Limited, we are in search of a Sr. Project Coordinator who will report to the General Manager. As part of a team working on various large civil infrastructure projects across the lower mainland, you will be supporting project management and field operations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Promoting a work environment where the safety and health of all employees, subcontractors, and individuals is
  • Coordinating, tracking, and reporting on various project functions including health & safety, environment, quality, costing, subcontractor progress, and scheduling.
  • Taking project progress photos, quantity measurements, managing hydrostatic and pneumatic utility testing, and coordinating sample taking and lab testing.
  • Working with foremen and superintendents to ensure accurate completion of daily crew reports for payroll and equipment time processing.
  • Analyzing job costing and helping to produce accurate budget forecasting.
  • Working with the procurement team to ensure timely and accurate delivery of materials and
  • Working with senior staff to develop, assess and improve project management and operations
  • Collaborating and assisting Estimators with estimating, including maintaining accurate bid lists, participation in the estimate review and bid wrap up
  • Helping with quantity take-offs, quote solicitation, comparative table analysis, WBS development, and estimate entry NorLand’s bid

 

What we’re looking for:

  • A Civil Engineering undergraduate degree or Civil Technologist diploma combined with up to 4 years of experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Projects skills. Hard Dollar experience is an
  • Ability to work in both an office and field environment, with frequent local travel to work sites, some without convenient access to public transit.
  • Ability to work to deadlines with frequent interruptions.
  • Able to work outside of normal work hours on occasion to meet the needs of the
  • Confident communicator, with a good work ethic and a willingness to learn.
  • Valid Driver’s License

 

Compensation

Are you an experienced Superintendent? At BEL Contracting, we’re looking for a Superintendent with extensive knowledge and experience in urban pipe laying and road building. As a BEL Superintendent, you will lead trades and construction staff in the field, while coordinating their responsibilities and activities on multiple sites

Duties & Responsibilities:

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Creating and executing project plans to meet project schedules and critical path dates
  • Modeling excellence in safety, and ensuring that crews deliver on the high safety standards that we expect of all employees
  • Meeting production targets, while ensuring we never compromise on quality
  • Solving all project issues and scheduling conflicts
  • Using your understanding of job costing and forecasting to form a basis of decision on critical project tasks
  • Recognizing and managing scope changes
  • Developing project safety plans and ensuring the project team works those plans
  • Leading, scheduling, and directing trades, subcontractors and other construction staff
  • Mentoring foremen and working closely with junior field engineers on site
  • Teaming with the project manager to ensure seamless project delivery to the client and identifying critical aspects of execution

What we’re looking for:

  • 6-10 years of experience leading civil construction crews
  • Proven track record of successfully completing complex underground civil utility (potable water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, district heating), earthworks, road building and other infrastructure projects
  • Experience working with Lower Mainland BC soil conditions in all applications (peat, running sand, glacial till, etc.)
  • Diploma in a related field of study is an asset
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office software

Compensation

The role is a permanent, full-time position with a typical starting salary range of $130,000 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, and experience.   • Understanding that as a supervisor, the foreperson is responsible for safety, quality, and protecting the environment for the assigned work
  • Leading crews to install deep utilities in difficult ground conditions (open cut and shored excavations)
  • Reading and interpreting drawings and specifications to provide clear instructions to the crew
  • Maintaining daily records including crew and equipment time, material receiving, productions and summary of activities on site
  • Training each position on the crew and taking responsibility for the crew’s development
