Lead Estimator – Commercial Construction

Copcan Civil, part of Norland Limited, is searching for an Estimator to join our general contracting team in Parksville, BC. As an Estimator you will have extensive knowledge and experience in residential and commercial building construction, will oversee the estimating process on all projects bid, and will establish standardized procedures, methods and processes for estimating and training.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the estimating team and have overall responsibility for the creation of budgets and estimates.
  • Manage and coordinate the people, software and other resources used to perform the estimating function.
  • Work with the Manager of our General Contracting Division to oversee department standards for deliverables such as bid packages, deliverable formats, and budget tracking tools.
  • Prepare timely and accurate bid estimates through quantity take-offs using estimating software, spreadsheet software, hand calculations, etc.
  • Assist with determining which jobs to put through the bid process and which jobs to pass up due to the current circumstances of the company, marketplace, and economic conditions.
  • Assigns responsibilities for estimating team on each project.
  • Reviews project plans and specifications and coordinates with the team to confirm complete scope.
  • Identify risk issues and their order of magnitude.
  • Mentor estimators and project coordinators and provide support whenever necessary.
  • Prepares instructions to bidders, bid form, and other bid solicitation information.
  • Ensures the flow of project information is maintained and documented.

What we’re looking for:

  • Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in the residential and commercial construction sector.
  • Successful estimating portfolio in residential, commercial and/or institutional projects.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead a team of individuals towards a common goal.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with experience in Heavy Bid software an asset.
  • Post secondary degree, diploma, and/or equivalent related work experience.

Compensation

The role is a permanent, full-time position with a typical salary range is $100,000 – $130,000 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, and experience.
