2020 Awards to Health & Safety and Pacific Blasting & Demolition!

We are so pleased to be able to celebrate two awards that HSE and Pacific Blasting & Demolition received this past February!

Health & Safety wins NAOSH Award: “Best Entry Award”

Safety and Health Week, also known as NAOSH Week (stands for North American Occupational Safety and Health), took place from May 3 to 9, 2020. “NAOSH Week is a continent-wide event spanning three countries (Canada, USA, and Mexico) that highlights to the public, government, and industry the importance of increasing understanding, raising awareness, and reducing injuries and illness in the workplace, at home, and in the community.”

To celebrate the commitment to safety and health, NAOSH and CSSE (Canadian Society of Safety Engineering) team up to present multiple awards each year. Because of COVID-19, NAOSH Week 2020 couldn’t happen in person as it usually does, but that didn’t stop a panel of judges from choosing recipients for the awards.

NAOSH presents four awards on a national level to four special organizations, and we are pleased and proud that NorLand was chosen for the award of “Best New Entry”! “Best New Entry” is for an organization stepping up their game. This award recognizes the organizations that are embracing Safety and Health Week in a big way, maybe not for the first time but with a new sense of purpose and passion.

Pacific Blasting & Demolition wins AGHP Award: “Rope Access Safety Recognition”

The Association of Geohazard Professionals (AGHP) supports “the development of standards, specifications, and best practices concerning the design and implementation of geohazard-related technologies and products; and to support and provide education to the geohazard community and those it serves.”

Pacific Blasting & Demolition received an award for “Rope Access Safety Recognition”, which recognizes industry-leading Rope Access Safety programs! See the announcement and criteria here:

“This recognition, honoring best-in-class safety development and implementation initiatives within the geohazard industry, distinguishes companies that foster & employ safe rope access work procedures, provide education & training to their personnel, and commit to enhancing the safety culture within their organizations.”

Pacific Blasting & Demolition has been performing rock slope stabilization work, nationally and internationally, for over 65 years and is the largest rock slope stabilization contractor in Canada. Engineering firms and government agencies throughout the world recognize our experience and commitment to safety. Pacific recognizes the need for highly trained and qualified workers to perform this potentially dangerous work and developed in-house training programs to meet its needs and corporate safety requirements. Today, Pacific Blasting is at the forefront of worker and public safety along with playing a leadership role in developing an occupational analysis for this type of work to develop a recognized apprenticeship program as well as defining pertinent industry standards.

Ahren Bichler (President of the AGHP) stated:

“On behalf of the AGHP and as a member of the geohazards community, I would like to extend my congratulations and sincerest gratitude to the recipients of the 2020 Rope Access Safety Recognition. This year we welcome five new companies as well as the return of our previous year’s recipients for a total of 12. These are the companies leading the way in corporate responsibility for ensuring that their workers and those of their clients and the general public are safe from harm and can go home to their families at the end of the day. It is my hope that by recognizing industry members that are committed to safety, we build a safety culture that will eventually encompass every organization working in our industry.”

Congratulations to the HSE (Health & Safety) Team and Pacific Blasting & Demolition! Thank you for always looking out for our safety; we appreciate the work you do to make sure we go home safe every day.

Everyone Goes Home SafeWe put safety first. There are no compromises. No task is worth a person’s health.

Effort Gets Recognized. Leaders aren’t necessarily the ones with a title. Take time to hold the deserving people high.
