Celebrating Earth Day with a Remote NorLand Cleanup!

April 22 is Earth Day – a day to appreciate our planet by demonstrating support for environmental protection. Earth Day has been an annual global sensation since 1970, but it has never been more important than now. Our planet needs our help.

The theme for Earth Day 2021 is “Restore Our Earth”, which focuses on natural processes, emerging green technologies, and innovative thinking that can restore the world’s ecosystems. From EARTHDAY.ORG: “It is up to each and every one of us to Restore Our Earth not just because we care about the natural world, but because we live on it. We all need a healthy Earth to support our jobs, livelihoods, health & survival, and happiness. A healthy planet is not an option – it is a necessity.”

When it comes to individual action for the common good, a great way that people can make an impact for our planet is by cleaning up our public spaces. At NorLand, we usually host cleanups as a group, but because of the current COVID-19 restrictions, we want to ensure we’re following the best health and safety standards and not putting anyone at unnecessary risk.

Instead, we are encouraging our employees (“NorLanders”) to take part in NorLand’s first-ever remote cleanup from Thursday, April 22nd to Friday, April 30th!

NorLanders and those in their core bubbles can go for a walk anywhere outside to help clean up their communities. Wear gloves and take a garbage/grocery bag (or two) and pick up anything that looks like garbage or like it shouldn’t be outside. This is a great way to make a difference, spend time with your loved ones, and exemplify what it means to be a responsible global citizen! Remember, Passion Leads to Pride.

To boot, for every NorLander who participates, we will donate $10 on your behalf to Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS), an organization dedicated to protecting both land and water environments across Canada.

There will be prizes for participants as well! Every time an employee participates, they’ll be entered into a draw for a chance to win. This involves taking a photo of themselves with the waste they collected, so stay tuned for an update! For full details, please email impact@norlandlimited.com.

This is a simple and effective way to live our Shared Purpose to Help Build Enduring Communities, Together. One person can make a big difference. Every piece of litter removed from the environment counts. To our participants: Happy cleaning!

Everyone Goes Home Safe – A reminder to participants to only pick up items if you have gloves on and some way to carry the waste safely. Be mindful of sharp objects and do not pick up used needles.
