Project Award – Holdom Overpass

In Metro Vancouver, Aecon GIG General Partnership, a 50/50 consortium between Aecon and Gateway Infrastructure Group (GIG), has been awarded a contract by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority for the Holdom Overpass Project. NorLand’s BEL Contracting division is a key member of the GIG General Partnership, providing heavy civil construction services to the project.

This complex project will increase transportation efficiency and trade capacity through the Port of Vancouver’s terminals on the North Shore. The full scope of work includes the design and construction of a new four-lane overpass that will extend Holdom Avenue south across Still Creek and the CN rail corridor, connecting to Douglas Road in Burnaby. Construction also involves a new bridge crossing Sunken Engine Creek, building a new pump station, the extension of Goring Street to Kingsland Drive, intersection upgrades, as well as habitat enhancements and restorations.

The port authority is delivering the Holdom Overpass Project in partnership with the City of Burnaby, CN, and the Government of Canada. Construction commenced in late 2024, with completion anticipated in 2027.

By enhancing safety and connections in the Burnaby community, both pedestrians and drivers will benefit from the Holdom Overpass’s improved traffic flow, emergency response, and public space. Through this project, NorLand’s BEL Contracting division is helping to build enduring communities that are connected, safer, and more prosperous.

The GIG Infrastructure Group is a partnership comprised of BEL Contracting, Kinsgston Construction and Fraser River Pile & Dredge (FRPD). GIG offers cost saving alternatives on a wide variety of medium and large-sized infrastructure projects.
