Health and Safety Advisor

We are looking for a new team member for the position of Health & Safety Advisor. Reporting to the Infrastructure Health & Safety Manager, the Health & Safety Advisor will help foster an environment of collaboration and active participation in H&S where employees understand and identify risks to make the best decisions.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Educating workers about the company’s safety policy, procedures and essential safety standards.
  • Assisting in development and implementation of safety procedures in compliance with Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Regulations.
  • Assisting in the development of the corporate Weekly HSE Update and Safety Alerts.
  • Collaborating with project managers and supervisors to develop site specific Health & Safety (H&S) plans and Job Hazard Assessments for safe project execution.
  • Supporting incident investigations by ensuring root causes are accurately identified and that corrective actions are appropriate, specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound (SMART).
  • Conduct regular site safety inspections.
  • Develop and deliver OHS training and New Hire Orientations.
  • Maintain workers certifications, identify gaps and schedule appropriate safety training.
  • Coordinate and maintain respirator fit testing and hearing testing.
  • Track leading and lagging stats, identify and communicate trends to the relevant operations team.
  • Provide support and assistance to the operations team for all HSE-related matters.
  • Provide support to the Joint Health & Safety Committees.
  • Assist in corporate safety audits (COR).
  • Monitor regulatory developments in Health & Safety for new and/or revised compliance obligations.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 1+ year of Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) experience in Construction / Oil & Gas.
  • Post-secondary education (degree or diploma) in health and safety, or equivalent education in a related field.
  • Proven ability to achieve results in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Skilled in creating and delivering presentations and reports. Excellent communication skills with the ability to facilitate group discussions.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite (particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience with third party safety management and compliance reporting systems.
  • Valid and clean BC Driver’s License.

 

The role is a permanent, full-time position with a typical salary range of $70,000 - $80,000 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, experience, and internal pay structures. As a part of NorLand’s total compensation package, this position is eligible for other benefits subject to program eligibility.
