Cranbrook Lagoons Bypass Piping Phase 2

Project Overview:

The Cranbrook Sanitary Sewer Upgrade was a critical infrastructure project undertaken by Copcan Civil, addressing the growing needs of the City of Cranbrook. This civil construction project involved the installation of new sewer mains, force mains, and manholes, alongside the integration of live cell tie-ins, ensuring the city’s sanitary systems met modern demands for efficiency and reliability.

Scope of Work:

Copcan Civil successfully completed the following key components:

  • Installed 350 meters of 900mm diameter sanitary sewer main and 400 meters of 150mm diameter sanitary force main.
  • Completed two live cell tie-ins using 900mm diameter sanitary HDPE.
  • Supplied and installed three box manholes and six 1500mm manholes.
  • Dewatered utility trenching operations with two 6-inch pumps to manage groundwater and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Bypassed an existing pumphouse during tie-ins using four 8-inch pumps to ensure uninterrupted sanitary system functionality.

Challenges & Solutions:

The project’s complexity was heightened by several unique challenges:

  1. Live Tie-Ins: The integration of live cell tie-ins required precise planning and execution to avoid service disruptions. Copcan’s expertise in sanitary systems ensured a seamless connection without compromising system performance.
  2. Dewatering Operations: Managing groundwater during utility trenching necessitated the use of powerful 6-inch pumps, ensuring excavation stability and safety.
  3. Pumphouse Bypass: To maintain uninterrupted service during tie-ins, Copcan deployed four 8-inch pumps to bypass the existing pumphouse. This allowed work to progress efficiently without impacting the surrounding community.

Despite the technical and logistical complexities, the project was completed successfully in April 2024. The upgraded sewer system provides the City of Cranbrook with enhanced capacity and reliability, supporting current and future community needs.
