Harmac Pacific Riverwater Pipeline
This project included the installation of 2,700 feet of 1050mm diameter buried high density polyethylene (HDPE) water piping along an existing alignment to replace the ageing wood-stave water transition main. Sequencing the install of HDPE and decommissioning of the wood-stave was required within a 7 day shutdown period as the mill could not afford a shortage of water supply.
Key Project Information
- Project Type:
- Budget:$300K
- Timeline:Completed May 2018
- Client:Nanaimo Forest Products Ltd.
HDPE pipe was staged a month in advance of the in-line replacement shut down window and fusing was completed two week prior to the shutdown. Copcan crews worked seven consecutive days putting in 12-15 hour shifts in order to complete the installation within the allocated time. Installation was complete one day early.
In addition to the fusing and installation of the HDPE pipe there was also the cutting and welding of two new steel transition spools at the tie-in points complete with flanged connections and paint coating. Once the installation was complete, the HDPE pipe was buried with fill and hydroseeded.
