  • Maintaining, checking, and transporting survey instruments
  • Communicating effectively with the pipe crew to set pipes or elements correctly

Reporting to the Project Construction Manager and NorLand Corporate Health & Safety Manager, the Project Health & Safety Manager’s fundamental role is to uphold NorLand’s stringent safety standards by meticulously monitoring the site-specific safety plan and ensuring full compliance. Beyond compliance, the Project Health & Safety Manager will proactively manage any safety concerns that arise and implement effective solutions that align with NorLand’s commitment to safety.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and enhance health & safety by tracking issues, maintaining records of incidents, and recommending and implementing improvements.
  • Conduct site orientations, training, and safety coordination for workers, subcontractors and visitors.
  • Organize and schedule required safety training.
  • Facilitate and participate in site inspections and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop site specific safety procedures, job hazard assessments and provide guidance on tool and equipment usage.
  • Analyze and identify leading and lagging indicators. Report and present safety statistics to Management.
  • Lead emergency response, manage First Aid resources, investigate incidents, and collaborate on safety record management.
  • Organize and facilitate monthly JHSC meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with NorLand’s Injury Management process, follow up with injured workers when required.
  • Provide direction, support and resource to all site managers, and supervisors.

What we’re looking for:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a lead safety position within the construction industry.
  • Occupational First Aid training.
  • Confined Space experience an asset.
  • A robust understanding of accident prevention and cause analysis.
  • Effective time management, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Superior leadership skills with ability and willingness to face challenges, solve problems, and motivate others, while maintaining effective relationships with customers.
  • Superior presentation skills and verbal / written communication skills.
  • Valid and clean BC Driver’s License.

Compensation

The role is a permanent, full-time position with a typical salary range of $90,000-110,000 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, and experience. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Build relationships with our customers to generate repeat business and word of mouth advertising.
  • Effectively manage projects from pre bid walkthroughs to commissioning and project close out, managing scope and ensuring that any changes to scope are documented and approved. You will be the primary point of contact for our customers.
  • Proactively lead, coach, motivate project team members and be accountable for team performance and results.

  • 3 years’ experience as an Estimator or Project Manager in the Industrial Construction or Heavy-Haul transportation sectors is as asset
  • Proficient with MS Office Software (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Estimating and business development experience, combined with an entrepreneurial mindset is an asset
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player

Compensation

CDI (Construction Drilling Inc.), adivision of NorLand Limited, is a foundation drilling contractor and drill equipment rental company based in Duncan, BC on Vancouver Island.CDI is looking for a team member to fill the position of Heavy-Duty Mechanic reporting to the Superintendent/Journeyperson located in Duncan, BC. This is an exciting opportunity to learn and work on some unique equipment.The successful candidate will promote the company’s HSE policies throughout each project; safely and effectively maintaining and repairing the equipment fleet.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Diagnosis /Faultfinding of hydraulic drilling equipment
  • Repair and maintenance of hydraulic drilling equipment according to EOM specifications
  • Check for the proper operation of hydraulic drilling equipment
  • Repair or replace defective parts
  • Clean, lubricate, and routinely maintenance of all of CDI equipment fleet
  • Perform routine scheduled Planned Maintenance (PM) services, appraisals, and Safety Inspections
  • Complete all necessary timecards and report documentation as required
  • Complete shop work as required by the Supervisor’s direction when required
  • Communicate repair status and requirements with the Supervisor and site foremen
  • Complete jobs as assigned. Some out-of-town travel to customers sites’ visits might be required
  • Proactively seek opportunities to grow customer accounts while carrying out your duties

What we’re looking for:

  • Safety focused individual
  • Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic preferred or 3rd or 4th year apprentice
  • 3+ years’ experience as a mechanic, preferably with field experience
  • Experience working on equipment including but not limited to conventional cranes, hydraulic drills, compressors, top drives, rotators, oscillators, excavators, etc
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical issues
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license (at minimum) is required (The license must not include any restrictions that would affect the ability to carry out job responsibilities legally and safely. Driver’s abstract will be requested)
  • Previous experience with Drilling Equipment and/or Excavators is an asset
  • Experience with hydraulic systems/equipment and excellent proficiency in reading hydraulic and electrical schematics is an asset
  • Honest, reliable, punctual, positive attitude and ability to work well with others is a must
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to work within a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work overtime as required at our Duncan location

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the estimating team and have overall responsibility for the creation of budgets and estimates.
  • Manage and coordinate the people, software and other resources used to perform the estimating function.
  • Work with the Manager of our General Contracting Division to oversee department standards for deliverables such as bid packages, deliverable formats, and budget tracking tools.
  • Prepare timely and accurate bid estimates through quantity take-offs using estimating software, spreadsheet software, hand calculations, etc.
  • Assist with determining which jobs to put through the bid process and which jobs to pass up due to the current circumstances of the company, marketplace, and economic conditions.
  • Assigns responsibilities for estimating team on each project.
  • Reviews project plans and specifications and coordinates with the team to confirm complete scope.
  • Identify risk issues and their order of magnitude.
  • Mentor estimators and project coordinators and provide support whenever necessary.
  • Prepares instructions to bidders, bid form, and other bid solicitation information.
  • Ensures the flow of project information is maintained and documented.

What we’re looking for:

  • Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in the residential and commercial construction sector.
  • Successful estimating portfolio in residential, commercial and/or institutional projects.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead a team of individuals towards a common goal.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with experience in Heavy Bid software an asset.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • With specific Business Unit Leaders, create and implement NorLand’s Major Projects Strategy and lead the development of pursuit strategies that align with company objectives and competitive positioning
  • In collaboration with Business Development, identify and track public and private sector projects, and develop and maintain relationships with customers and alliance partners
  • Identify and track projects in the market, develop win plans, conduct internal qualifications identification, oversee content development, proposal schedule and delivery of proposals
  • Participate in discussions with the Owner to help ensure we are developing project solutions that achieve project requirements
  • Analyze RFPs, RFQs, and SOQs to assess project requirements and risks
  • Manage proposal work plans to develop winning, competitive and compliant bids
  • Manage relationships with the owner, designers, JV/alliance partners, as well as internal teams
  • Review and analyze alternative technical solutions, value engineering options, and project schedules to optimize proposals
  • Attend pursuit meetings, client meetings, pre-bid conferences, and industry events, some of which may require travel outside the lower mainland

What we’re looking for:

  • Over 10 years of overall relevant work experience, including 5+ years of project pursuit experience
  • Deep experience in heavy civil construction projects
  • Proven experience developing bids under various delivery models (DBB, DB, PDB, Alliance, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management is preferred
  • Experience in contracts management, and experience working with underground utilities and specialty sub-contractors is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams through complex high-stakes proposal processes
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear, compelling way
  • High attention to detail, combined with strong time management and task prioritization skills
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

Compensation

The role is a permanent, full-time position with a typical salary range of $140,000 to $170,000 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, and experience.
