Copcan Civil, part of NorLand Limited, is an award-winning civil construction company, operating from offices in Nanaimo, Victoria, Kelowna, and Rossland. The company has been in business since 1970 and has successfully completed projects throughout Vancouver Island and the BC Interior, including highways, bridge construction, underground utilities, demolitions, marine infrastructure projects, private development, and various municipal works.

We are in search of Equipment Operators in Nanaimo, BC. The successful candidates will be responsible for working with a team of other equipment operators to accomplish site-level goals and promoting the company’s HSE policies throughout each project. They’ll bring extensive knowledge and experience in city, urban pipe laying and road building.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operate an Excavator, in a safe and respectful manner at all times on sites
  • Operate as a productive member of a high functioning team to drive high quality results
  • Achieves maximum production with full attention to crew safety and the prevention of incidents
  • Perform daily pre-inspection machinery safety checks, equipment service and inspection log
  • Ensure effective communication at all times with the ground field crew
  • Report on project progress and any potential issues as they arise to Field Supervisors
  • Attend and be an active participant in all mandatory safety meetings

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years working experience required on full size 40-ton and 50-ton size excavators.
  • Ability to operate backhoe, dozer, &/or loader an asset
  • Must have experience with various shoring types and excavations to maximum reach of digging depth
  • Must have experience working with pipe crews and is comfortable working in tight & deep spaces and in traffic
  • Must have experience digging around live systems, pull trench, cut slope or grade to finish tolerance
  • Understanding of Safety and the expectations to exceed safety standards
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work independently and as part of a larger team
  • Holds a valid driver’s license and has the ability to drive within the Province of BC
  • Fit to work – ability to see, hear, walk, stand, lift up to 50 lbs
  • Basic Computer skills is required with an experience with GPS systems consider an asset
  • Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing
  • Good work ethic and willing to learn with the desire to produce quality results

 

Expected wage range: $35.88 to $42.92 per hour (exact compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, internal equity, and other criterion)
